Domaine Wardy

Domaine Wardy is a family owned and run winery in Zahle with roots reaching back to 1881. The vineyards were nurtured by a young widow Wardy (Rose) Mousalem and today is run by the fourth generation of family.  In 2018 the family refreshed the look of their wine labels, renovated the winery, and planted new organic vineyards at high altitude on the slopes of the Bekaa Valley. The labels embrace their heritage using the intricately patterned mosaics of Lebanon to indicate the origin of the wine. The exuberant colors of each label indicate the aromatic profile of each wine. There is also a wood texture to indicate whether a wine has been oaked or not.  Currently, Domaine Wardy makes four categories of wines: the single-varietals; the unoaked blends, Beqaa Valley Red, White, & Rose; the oaked blends Chateau les Cedres, Perle de Chateau; and the limited editions, Private Selection Red & White. The family also produces two araks and a vodka.

Beqaa Valley Red 2018
Tempranillo’s characteristic savory notes come to the fore with powerful green cigar leaves coupled by dark and sour cherries, the Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah add hints of blackberry, black pepper and wonderful floral notes. A generous wine with a long finish.
Perle du Château 2019
A rich, luscious, full-bodied wine defined by beautiful minerality. Notes of green fruits (guava, apple, pear), lemon and honey with whispers of bay leaf, sage and lavender. Long lingering finish.
Château les Cèdres 2015
A well-structured wine with soft, well integrated tannins and a long finish. The earthiness of beetroot acts as the perfect foil to the lusciousness of black cherries… smoky cedar, blackcurrant, mint, vanilla… A very sensual drop.
Obeidi 2017
A fresh yet full-bodied white wine defined by Obeidi’s characteristic beeswax profile which is layered with notes of white peach, white plum, quince, guava and marzipan; the restraint use of old oak adds subtle hints of nutmeg and cedar.
Beqaa Valley White 2019
A crisp, fresh, summery white wine. On the nose hints of guava, mandarin, grapefruit & pineapple with a touch of white pepper. The palate emphasizes the citrusy/tropical character. Medium body & finish.

Fun Facts

  • Domaine Wardy is a 4th generation, family owned and run winery in Zahle with roots reaching back to 1881. The vineyards were nurtured by a young widow Wardy (Rose) Mousalem. In 2018 the family refreshed the look of their wine labels, renovated the winery, and planted new organic vineyards at high altitude on the slopes of the Bekaa Valley.
  • The unique labels of Domaine Wardy’s single-varietal wines are intended to provide relevant clues about each. The design, a Middle Eastern mosaic, indicates the origin of the wine: Lebanon. The colors reflect the aromatic profile of each variety and wood texture (or lack of it) indicates whether the wine has been oaked (or not).
